Meet The Experts
Bob Rising
I don't mind admitting to being 60, it always brings a response of surprise or disbelief to all that meet me. I don't look my age, feel my age or, act my age (not sure if that is a good thing!) I have always worked and trained with people younger than myself, never trying to keep up with them, more like setting the pace so they have to do all the keeping up!
What's the secret? Good nutrition, plenty of exercise, fresh air, and knowing when and how to relax when I need to. Keeping my enthusiasm and passion high in everything I do, looking forward to each new day.
But it was not always like that, 10 years ago I found myself spiralling into deep depression, I did not want to seek medical advice, medication never solves anything and can cause a new set of problems.
The solution had to come from within. At the time I was a gardener, working mostly on my own, the weather was lousy, not enjoying my work, hating having to get up each day.
So I quit my job, which I had done some 30 years, and started as a part time fitness instructor at Fitness First in Bournemouth. I loved it, and realised I should have been doing this all along, part time soon became full time, teaching classes, running the weight management club, and doing personal training.
Now ten years later, I have enabled thousands to attain their goals, training people of every age and fitness level. I have lost count of all the classes I have taught, and still do at Fitness First, The Village, Littledown centre and, FitSpace. My favourite class is spinning, but also do circuits, stability ball and abs.
At present I am senior personal trainer at FitSpace, recently I had a piece published in The Guardian newspaper, relating to training the over 50's. Also contributing to Men's Fitness magazine.
Future plans are to make a fitness DVD for the 50 age groups, there is nothing out there that caters for this group. Offering sensible practical advice, from someone who has practiced if for nearly 40 years, and not some 'Celebrity' who is just reading a script.
Hobbies; Movies and home cinema, music, weight training.
LIKES; enthusiastic people, going to the beach, chocolate cake. DISLIKES; Rude arrogant people, negative attitudes, wet weather, green trousers and fatty foods.
